AlaEddin Douba defends his PhD

AlaEddin Douba successfully defended his PhD on June 1, 2022. His thesis is entitled "Nano-Engineered Cement for 3D Printing Concrete" and his original contributions have led to three refereed journal papers (ACI Materials J, Cement and Concrete Composites, Construction and Building Materials), numerous oral presentations at ACI, ACerS, ASCE and RILEM meetings, and a full patent application. Ala also served as research advisor to 15+ BS and MS students, received the Professor Rene B. Testa Award in 2021, and the Teaching Assistant Excellence Award in 2018 and 2022.

Starting in July, Ala will be joining Purdue University as a Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellow. Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellows are selected not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements and proposed innovative interdisciplinary research but also for their potential for broader impact on industry and society. He will collaborate with co-advisors, Dr. Kendra Erk, Associate Professor of Materials Engineering, and Dr. Jan Olek, James H. and Carol H. Cure Professor in Civil Engineering, in the area of rheology and printability of cementitious mixtures.
